I think that Hatties grandparents are way to obsessed w/ properness and are complete snobs!lol.Mostly Hatties nana(grandma). I bet that not many people like them because even if some people haven't met them, word would travel fast in a small town and most people probably wouldn't say very nice comments.
Like KEM said they are complete snobs and they are caught up in everybodies business.In a small town there is not much privacy, and Hatties Nana has learned to take advantage of it.Word does travel fast in a small town!
It would be kind of hard to keep a secret that big in a town that small.When they sent Adam away people probably thought he died and they forgot about it over the years.Now he's back and a lot of memories have probably been brought back.
Hey Mrs. B if you were Hattie and you haven't been told about adam yet, would even think about what it would be like to find out that you have an uncle who was different from other people? To be honest Adam is not as weird as I expected him to be.
MMS: No, I guess if I didn't have a clue, I wouldn't think about it. I assume I am not being lied to unless I have a reason to believe I am.

MMS-I think it's sad that they treat him like he is a small child. It's hard because I sort of understand that they are trying to protect him, but I also think that he embarrasses them (even though they shouldn't be embarrassed) and they want to protect themselves from being made fun of by others in the community. What do you think?
I think that Hatties grandparents are the snobbiest people in the world! I mean its like I would have to wear a pink dress with gloves and ruffles, and possibly a hat to please my neat obsessed granny. I dont think anyone likes them, infact I would be scared of them.

Like you said they shouldn't be embarrassed. It's not their fault it's not Adam's fault it's nobodies fault. God just chose to have them give birth to a child who is different. He is still a person with feelings and opinions just like us, except he has some trouble controlling his thoughts.

Hatties parents probably just told everyonne to keep quiet about Adam. It would also help that he was far awway in a boarding school in Ohio.If something big was happening here, i know word would travel fast!W/ such a small place, everyone would know the secret.

I don't recall anyone in my family like Hattie's Nana but I do think I've met other people like that.I don't know how anyone can even stand to be so prim and proper.I like to get muddy and run around my neighborhood barefoot, screaming at the top of my lungs with my friends but if someone like Nana caught me doing that, they would band me for life!Although i'm sure my parents wouldn't appreciate that either.

I think Nana is really mean,prim and proper so I don't like her very much, but I absolutley, without a doubt, positivley can not STAND Nancy. She is a downright mean,selfish,stuck-up,bratty little bully who obviously tries to be "cool" around Janet and other people just for attention.I think you catch my drift.Janet isn't a very, what you'd call a "good person" either from what the book describes her.Nana is really getting on my nerves.Its dumb how she treats Adam, just because she's embarrassed having Adam around her, sometimes goofing off.It's nice how Angel acts like Adams just a regular person and its cute how Adam has a crush on Angel Valentine but I feel bad for Hattie because she feels left out.It was kind of gross how the author wrote that Adam looked at Angel from head to toe and stopped "in the middle".I'm really excited about the book and can't wait to read more!!!:)

I think Adam is actually not as "goofy" as I expected him to be.I think he's usually nice but he can't quite control how he acts towards nana & papa.Some people might not even notice anything odd about him,like Angel,and might only think he's just another person like you and me.As far as I'm concerned,he is.

I think Adam is very nice, he is just a little fast sometimes but that is ok. Even thought he has a dissability, he is very nice. I dont think Adam is dissrespectfull to his mom and dad, but I think his mom and dad are disrespectfull to him, dont you think? Also Adam is not as weird as I thought he would be, I was really suprised by that.

I think the carnival sounds fun. Also I think that the carnival is a important part of the book. I think that Hatties parents acted like Adam was a little kid who would burn the house down, so they were unsure wether to leave him or not. I think Hattie understands what Adam is going through, so I think he is like best friend to her. I dont think she really feels uncomfortable with Adam.

MMS-Wow, you are a blogging machine! Okay, I am going to try and answer your questions:
1. First of all, I would not want to for one second be inside Nana's body because she is a bad, bad person! However, if I had to, I would certainly apologize to the people she has hurt. I am a fan of sincere and heart felt apologies that cite specific actions and wrong doings, so I guess I would go that route.
2. Honestly if I were Angel and Adam liked me, I would hope that I could be kind to him, and not be freaked out by it. I don't think Angel really considers Adam to be someone she would date, so hopefully I would be able to let him know that in a compassionate way. Then I would hope we could be friends.
KEM-If someone called me that I think I would just walk away, and cry later. However, due to Adam's problems, I think it would be harder for him to have that much self control. I don't ever mind telling people that others have made fun of me because I try to laugh along with the joke. It's a defense mechanism.

I'm not sure what will happen since Adam can't go to the carnival. I'm kind of wondering if he'll go another day.I'm not sure if Adam and Angel will start dating because it seemed like Angel had a boyfriend or something when she was picked up by the man who looked like some kind of star in the convertible.I'm not sure what will happen.It's a mystery to me.

If I were Angel and Adam asked me out,but I'd try not to show it.For me it really is hard to decide whether I'd say yes or no.He seems like a nice guy but it would be hard to handle.I guess I'd give it a try.I think Angel has a boyfriend because I got suspicious when the man with the convertible picked Angel up for the carnival.I think Adam would either go BELISTIC(if that's a word)or get very sad and start to cry really hard.

MAR-I think they were trying to divert his attention from the carnival by shopping for new clothes. I think they are just plain mean anyway, so I am not surprised by anything they do! You're right-they certainly would not find a carnival to be "proper."
MMS-I like Leila! Since I've read the book, I don't want to say much about her character, but you guys are right, she is a great friend for Hattie. I think she's kind to Adam and I enjoy her ability to adapt to all sorts of people. I think it's because of the fact that she moves around a lot and always has to adapt. Plus her parents are part of a circus, so she knows what it's like to be labeled "different."

What did you guys thin when Adam was at the 4th of July festivle? He got really mad about the whole chocolate icecream thing, dont you think? I mean he even said "I dont care who drives the truck. {I cant really say what he said.} I was kind of shocked when he said that, werent you? i thought he had a huge emotional thing, but i guess he has a big anger thing too. What would you have done after Adam ran from the picnic area? Would you have felt uncomfortable to follow Adam? It was kind of odd that he was really mad, then super nice again. I guess that is just the way he is,and I am just fine with that.
